◆ Denise Metsger Michaud (’00 MPH) of
Morganton has retired as public health director for
Caldwell County. Michaud’s 28-year career in public
health included prior Caldwell County positions as a
public health nutritionist, nutrition program director
and assistant health director.
2001 updates Ernest Clinton Alphin
(’01 BSBA) of Dunn has received the Telluride
Troubadour Award from the 2017 Telluride
Bluegrass Festival for his song Out to California. In
summer 2017, Alphin appeared at the Huntington
Folk Festival and the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival.
He is working on his fourth CD project, due for
release next summer. ◆ Jamie Allison DeMent
(’01) of Hillsborough has been named a Triangle
Business Journal 40 Under 40 for 2017. DeMent is
the owner of Coon Rock Farm, Bella Bean Organics
and the Piedmont Restaurant, which specializes
in farm-to-table food. In September, she published
her first cookbook, The Farmhouse Chef: Recipes
& Stories from My Carolina Farm. She was profiled
in the Review’s July/August 2014 food issue,
