There’s plenty to keep students entertained as they arrive for the fall semester, including dance
and other performances at FallFest, at top above, and singing by student groups at the Sunset
Serenade, sponsored by the Student Alumni Association, above and at top of opposite page.
The GAA’s Order of the Bell Tower hosts the annual relighting of the Bell Tower, signaling a new
school year. While the tower was bathed in Carolina blue, students glowed like a rainbow.

Busy, in a Fun Way
Between hauling all their stuff into their dorms and apartments and hitting
the books on the fall semester’s first day
of classes, students stayed busy celebrating
being at Carolina. On Friday night, after
a long day of moving in, more than 1,000
students and their family members dined at
Chase Dining Hall in Rams Head Plaza,

of New Student and Family Programs.
On Sunday, they roamed the 21st annual
FallFest, filling bags with swag from campus
groups and catching the shows put on by
fellow students. After the thrill of Monday
afternoon’s possibly-once-in-a-lifetime solar
eclipse, they sprawled all over Polk Place for
the annual Sunset Serenade. As night fell,
they moved over to the Bell Tower to see
it herald the new school year as a beacon in
Carolina blue light. And then they rested —
at least until the next morning’s alarm clocks
roused them for class.
