McConnells, S.C., has become an Official National
Ambassador for the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation Champions Program. Latta, a star point guard
with the WNBA’s Tulsa Shock, lent her support in
honor of her father and grandmother, who have been
examples in teaching her about the challenges of
living with Parkinson’s. ◆ Rebecca Kate Miller (’07
MSLS) of Blacksburg, Va., has been named an
Emerging Leader by the American Library Association. Miller is an assistant professor and college
librarian at Virginia Tech. She is editing a book with
two other librarians at Virginia Tech about how
libraries and librarians are using iPads and other

of Greensboro has been named head basketball
coach for the UNC-Greensboro Spartans. Miller, who
lettered three seasons at UNC, is the youngest Division I head coach in the nation.

’ 10 Nathaniel A. Sowa (’ 10 PhD) of Chapel Hill has received the 2011 Council of Graduate Studies/ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Award. Sowa, now a medical
student at UNC, received the award in the category of
biological and life sciences for his dissertation describing the identification and characterization of two new
proteins (ectonucleotidases) that inhibit pain-signaling
and offer new areas for research in pain therapy.

Donuts, which operates out of The Cookery, a commercial kitchen and culinary business incubator in
