Georgie Joffrion Gregory (’ 85 AB, ’ 95 BSN), 48, of
Roanoke Rapids; Dec. 5, 2011. Gregory, a nurse,
worked most recently with the cardiovascular team
at Wake Medical Center. She also worked with
GlaxoSmithKline and Johnson & Johnson. At UNC,
she belonged to Campus Y. ◆ Karen Leigh Stroup
(’ 85 AB), 54, of Jonesborough, Tenn.; Jan. 21,
2012. Stroup retired as manager of patient advocacy at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.
Previously, she was minister of the Central Christian
Church in Springfield, Tenn., and a senior lecturer at
Vanderbilt University. She overcame breast cancer to
finish work on a doctorate at Vanderbilt. Her book
Speak the Language of Healing dealt with the breast
cancer experiences of four women. At UNC, she was
a Johnston Scholar, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa
and belonged to Campus Y.
’ 86 Michael Miller Allen (’ 86 ABJO) of Wake Forest has been named creative director for the public relations, brand-
ing and advertising agency Jennings. Allen is a lec-
turer in the School of Journalism and Mass Commu-

(’ 86 AB) of Oakland, Calif., is the co-editor of Per-
sonality, Stress and Coping: Implications for Educa-
tion, published in September 2011. Reevy-Manning
is a lecturer at California State University-East Bay.

Ohio, has been named executive vice president and
chief marketing officer of Cedar Fair Entertainment
Co., operator of Kings Dominion, Knotts Berry Farm
and Carowinds, among other amusement parks. ◆
Dr. Timothy Gerard Shaughnessy (’ 86 MS) of Mari-
etta, Ga., a director of the Atlanta Orthodontic Study
Group, has been appointed a consulting orthodon-
tist on the clinical and scientific advisory board for
Biolux Research Ltd., a leader in the development of
light-accelerated regeneration technology, which
accelerates tooth movement and can reduce the

Slaughter (’ 86 AB, ’ 89 JD) of Greensboro has been
re-elected to the national board of governors of the
College of Community Association Lawyers. Slaugh-
ter is the first N.C. lawyer to serve on the board. He
is a partner in Rossabi Black Slaughter PA, with
offices in Charlotte and Greensboro.

Dr. Brent Evans Larson (’87 MS) of Rochester,
Minn., has been appointed chief consultant to the
Air Force surgeon general for orthodontics. Larson is
chair and program director of the division of orthodontics at the University of Minnesota School of
Dentistry and a member of the board of trustees of
