Erickson is the David E. & Dolores “Dee” Yoder Distinguished Professor of literacy and disability studies
and director of the Center for Literacy & Disability
Studies in the UNC School of Medicine’s allied health
sciences department. In 2010, Erickson received
the Robert E. Bryan Public Service Award from the
Carolina Center for Public Service. In 2011, she
received the Village Pride Award from WCHL for her
dedication to literacy issues and her work at Efland-Cheeks Elementary School, where she implemented

of Daytona Beach, Fla., has made a $2.5 million
donation to the Carolina Basketball Family Fund. The
largest donation to date, it paid for the renovation of
basketball offices in the Smith Center and will support the operating endowment for the men’s basketball program. Lettermen’s Lane, the brick walkway
between the Smith Center and Koury Natatorium,
will be named for Carter, who played at UNC from
1995 to 1998. He is an eight-time All-Star with the
NBA and a member of the U.S. team that won a
gold medal at the 2000 Olympics. ◆ Dr. Garry
Conille (’ 99 MPH) of Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, was
elected prime minister of his native country of Haiti
in October. Conille has a medical degree from the
University of Haiti to go with his master’s degree
