Wellesley, Mass.; Sept. 5, 2011. Healy retired as
founder and president of Add-Men Services Inc. He
was a Navy veteran of WWII, and in the Korean War
he served on the psychological strategy board in
Washington, D.C. He was a reservist in the Navy
Supply Corps. ◆ Dr. Donald Lentz Henson (’ 45), 88,
of Chapel Hill; Sept. 17, 2011. Henson was co-founder of the national corporation Affordable Dentures. He was a dentist in Kinston, specializing in
pediatrics. He was Citizen of the Year in Kinston,
co-chaired the committee that opened Lenoir County
Community College and was appointed to the
Murfreesboro Historical Commission. In WWII, he
served shore duty in the Navy Reserve. He was
president of the Educational Foundation (The Rams
Club), served on the UNC Board of Visitors and the
UNC School of Dentistry Bicentennial Campaign
steering committee. As a student, he belonged to
Order of the Grail and was captain of the freshman

Herring was a pharmacist and former owner and
operator of a drugstore in Clinton. He was a charter

Virginia Grace Allen Hodson, 90, of Chapel Hill;
Aug. 22, 2011. Hodson retired from UNC Hospitals
as an administrative assistant in the department
of clinical psychology, where she had worked for
30 years. ◆ Laurel Brown Houser, 64, of
WWII, he served in the Army. At UNC, he belonged to
Rho Chi. ◆ Charles Edward Hussey (’ 42 BSCOM),
90, of Tarboro; Sept. 15, 2011. Hussey retired as
president of a wholesale automobile parts company.
In WWII, he served in Army Air Force intelligence. He
was on the board of directors of Rocky Mount
Academy and was active in his church. At UNC, he
was a member of Phi Gamma Delta and Glee Club.
◆ F. Wayne Johnson (’ 48 BSCOM), 83, of High Point;
Sept. 10, 2011. Johnson retired as a group vice
president with Burlington Industries. In retirement,
he became manager of the aerospace fabric business
Highland Industries. He was a Navy pilot in WWII. At
UNC, he belonged to Sigma Chi and was on the

Jones Sr. (’ 44 AB), 88, of Washington, N.C.; June 13,
2011. Jones retired as a physician with the Jones-
Tayloe Clinic of Washington. He specialized in
obstetrics and gynecology. In WWII, he was in the
Marine Corps and received the Purple Heart. ◆ Eunice
Patten Jones (’ 41 AB), 90, of Chapel Hill; Sept. 10,
2011. Jones had been a medical secretary. At UNC,
she belonged to Pi Beta Phi. ◆ Dr. Raymond Henry
Kaufman (’ 44), 85, of Houston; Nov. 25, 2010.
Kaufman was professor emeritus in the department
of obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor College of
Medicine, where he was chair of the department for
23 years, and professor at Weil Medical College of
Cornell University. He published numerous articles
and wrote a textbook on vulvar and vaginal dis-

of Chapel Hill; Sept. 11, 2011. Loeb was professor of public law and government and an assistant director of the Institute of Government (now
the School of Government) for more than 35
years. In his career, he was counsel to committees of the N.C. General Assembly and published
books and articles to assist N.C. lawyers. He was
a member of the bars of Tennessee, North Carolina
and the U.S. Supreme Court. In the Korean War,
he was an Army intelligence officer. ◆ Dr. Ernest
Benjamin Page Jr., 85, of Raleigh; Sept. 13,
2011. Page was a clinical professor of medicine
at UNC medical school. His private practice of
internal medicine was in Raleigh, where he had
leadership positions in various medical organizations, including president of the Raleigh Society of
Internal Medicine and of the Wake County Medical
Society. Through his church, he went on 14 medical missions to Villahermosa, Mexico. In the early

Murray, who
served in
the Army in
WWII and
the Korean
and
Vietnam wars, was believed to be the only
living UNC alumnus who has received the
Congressional Medal of Honor. It was awarded
in 1945 for his actions in France in which he
drove back a large force of German soldiers.
He received three Silver Stars and two Bronze
Stars, among many other awards. During his
career in the Army, he served with the 82nd
Airborne Division, was promoted to colonel and
commanded the regiment that guarded the
Tomb of the Unknowns. In retirement, he
worked for the S.C. Department of Corrections.
He was an Eagle Scout and received the
Distinguished Eagle Scout Award in 1971. At
UNC, he belonged to Delta Sigma Pi.

was executive secretary of
the Newman Catholic Student

in Jordan, China and Tibet, among other countries.
