TAR HEEL
Phail Wynn ’ 89 (MBA) and Peggy Wynn
Cuba, 2009
Favorite GAA trip: Each trip quickly becomes our favorite. What made St. Petersburg our new
favorite were the sights, sounds and flavors; the delightful group of UNC alums that were on the
trip; and the humor, efficiency, flexibility and warmth of our Campus Director, Sergey Pukhanov.
Most memorable Tar Heel Travel experience: Cuba in 2009, as we were among the first group
of Americans to visit Cuba after President Obama loosened the travel restrictions. We were there
on May Day 2009, the 50th anniversary of the Cuban revolution.
Travel necessity: Tropical fruit blend trail mix and Pepto-Bismol tablets
Who’s in charge: Since I do the planning and make all arrangements for the trips, Peggy allows
me to think I am in charge.
Aisle or window: Aisle for me, window for Peggy
Favorite in-flight reads: My favorite reading on the plane is The Economist. Hers is the latest
trashy novel.
Most memorable foreign food: Freshly made haggis in Scotland
Best souvenir: Golf gear from The Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland, the home of golf
Must-do for every trip: Buy or try the distilled spirits and malt beverages that are produced in
the country
Final thoughts: Tar Heel Travel is important to us because the destination choices are incredible,
the travel arrangements are impeccable and the Tar Heel alums that travel are the best
people on earth!
