Hill has won a Knight News Challenge grant for
$275,000 to be used to help rural newspapers in
North Carolina develop a hyper-local presence online.
Thornburg, an assistant professor of journalism at
UNC, will customize the OpenBlock Web application,
which displays news and data onto maps, for rural
communities.
