Carolina Forum together invited two
banned speakers to address the campus and
notified the administration. One was Her-
bert Aptheker, a known Communist; the
other was Frank Wilkinson, who had pled
the Fifth Amendment before the House
Un-American Activities Committee.
George Nicholson III ’ 66 was chair of
Wilkinson, top photo, was told he could not speak on the campus; Aptheker, at right in bottom
photo, was surrounded by news media. Wilkinson had taken the Fifth Amendment before the
House Un-American Activities Committee. Aptheker was a known Communist.
