THE STUDENTS AND THE BAN
n Thursdays, a
line forms on
campus near the
rock wall that
marks the bor-
der between town and campus. Passersby
can help themselves to a free meal offered
by Hillsborough’s Hare Krishna commu-
nity. On sunny days, students sit in the grass
just off Franklin Street, enjoying the food
and socializing.
Otherwise, it is uncommon to see stu-
dents today gather here. McCorkle Place is
more of a thoroughfare where one might
stop to contemplate Silent Sam or the
Unsung Founders Memorial, enjoying the
tree cover on the way to class.
