Evelyn Werth Hill (’ 79 JD), 62, of Raleigh; May 5,
2011. Hill was the first woman elected as a Wake
County Superior Court judge, retiring in 2006.
Previously, she was an assistant district attorney in
Wake County and an adjunct professor of criminal
law at N.C. State University. ◆ Patricia Dale
Lindsay (’ 79 MPH), 63, of Tucson, Ariz.; April 28,
2011. Lindsay opened My Parents House in Davis,
Calif., to provide care for the elderly and disabled.
Previously, she retired as assistant director for
health promotion at University of California-Davis.

Stanley Joe Austin (’ 80 MEd), 62, of Hampstead;
May 24, 2011. Austin retired as an educator with
Cumberland County schools. Before retiring to
Hampstead, he was a Cub Scout Scoutmaster and
deacon in his Fayetteville church. ◆ Dr. Phyllis
Jean Clark (’ 80, ’ 79 DDS; ’83, ’ 82 MS), 54, of
Orange Beach, Ala.; April 24, 2011. An oral sur-
geon in Alabama, Clark established a number of
“firsts” in her profession: first female resident in
oral and maxillofacial surgery at UNC; first female
oral and maxillofacial surgeon in the Army; and first
female oral and maxillofacial surgeon to practice in
Alabama. ◆ Laura Lindsay Drewyor (’ 80 AB), 52,
of Morehead City; May 8, 2011. Early in her career,
Drewyor was promotions director with Mann Media
in High Point. At UNC, she was in Glee Club.

Annette Minda Fuller (’ 80 ABJO) of Winston-Salem
has returned to the U.S. from Beijing, where she
had been a senior editor at the China Daily since
2009, to become metro editor of the Winston-
Salem Journal. ◆ Carter Eugene Mario (’ 80) of Mil-
ford, Conn., placed 18th at CRASH B, the interna-
tional indoor rowing competition held at Boston
University in which some 2,000 contestants com-
pete on an Ergometer. Mario, a lawyer, is president
of Carter Mario Injury Lawyers. ◆ Martha Shaw
Mills (’ 80 ABEd) of Nebo has retired as records
assistant with the GAA after almost 25 years of
tracking and maintaining contact with UNC alumni
and their families. ◆ William Henry Rogers Jr. (’ 80
BSBA) of Atlanta has been named president and
CEO of Sun Trust Banks, succeeding James M. Wells
III (’ 68 AB), who plans to continue to serve as exec-

been named CEO of MillerCoors. Previously, Long
was president and chief commercial officer of the
company formed by SABMiller and Molson Coors.

John Macon Cornick (’ 81 BSBA), 52, of Raleigh;
May 13, 2011. Cornick, a CPA, was CFO for
Southern Industrial Constructors. At UNC, he was a
member of Phi Delta Theta and as an alumnus
served the fraternity in a variety of capacities. He
was an officer in the National Society of President
James Madison Family Descendents. ◆ Richard
James Hurder (’ 81 AB), 49, of Houston; June 17,
2010. Hurder was a lawyer. ◆ Dr. Carol Rogers Reid
(’ 81 MD), 55, of Wilkesboro; May 8, 2011. Reid was
chief of anesthesia at Wilkes Regional Medical
Center.
’ 82 Elizabeth Little Barnes (’ 82 BSBA) of Dover, Mass., has received a master’s in social work from Simmons College
School of Social Work. Barnes has published A
Family Guidebook on Bullies, Self-Esteem and Hidden
Hurts and offers lectures in “How to Bully-Proof Your
Child” to parents of elementary school children. ◆
