Davis was involved in
any of the problems that
surfaced either in players’ improper contacts with outsiders or academic improprieties.
Eight months later, on July 27, after meeting earlier
in the day with the trustees, Thorp announced Davis
had been dismissed. He said it was his decision, not the
trustees’ or Baddour’s.
In nine allegations
leveled against UNC in
June, the NCAA gave no indication that Davis was
culpable, and Thorp reiterated that the University had
not found Davis at fault. Thorp acknowledged that the
timing, eight days before the start of preseason practice,
are fluent in a
language other
than English
