practice, served on the GAA Board of Directors

Ga.; Dec. 1, 2009. Coplin was a CPA with Grant

JD), 58, of Springfield, Va.; March 19, 2010. Shortly
after graduating from UNC, Winterkorn was a senior
tax accountant for a major accounting firm. While in
law school, he was on the staff of the Law Review.
’ 80 James Boyd Groce III (’ 80 AB, ’83 BSPHR) of Greensboro received the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award
from Campbell University, where he is a professor of
pharmacy practice. Groce, known worldwide for his
activism in the fight against deep vein thrombosis,
holds positions as a clinical assistant professor of
medicine at UNC and as a clinical pharmacy special-
ist-anticoagulation at Moses H. Cone Hospital. u
Dana Hollis Halberg (’ 80 MBA) of Atlanta has been
named a member of the Buckhead Coalition, a
chamber of commerce-type organization serving the
northern part of Atlanta. Halberg is the Georgia chair-
man of BNY Mellon Wealth Management. u Robin
Sink McClelland (’ 80 MRP) of Shoreline, Wash., has
been inducted into membership in the American
Institute of Certified Planners’ College of Fellows.
McClelland serves as a planning consultant with two
cities in the Puget Sound region, participates in the
senior action committee of the Washington chapter
of the American Planning Association and is active
with the University of Washington Professionals
Council, which provides mentors to students in the
fields of planning, law, architecture, urban design

Va.; April 23, 2010. Carrigan had a long career with
the Prince William County school district and was
librarian at an elementary school before retiring. She

Pamela Michelle Davenport (’ 80 AB), 51, of
Wendell; June 23, 2010. Davenport worked for the
N.C. Employment Security Commission, specializing
in labor market information. She served in the Air
Force and was named the Air Force Transportation
Officer of the Year in 1985. At UNC, she belonged to
AFROTC. u Debra Lucas Pittman (’ 80 BSIR, ’ 92 JD),
52, of Lexington; June 16, 2010. Pittman was a
lawyer. At UNC, she belonged to Alpha Phi Omega. u
Beatrice A. Rouse (’ 80 PhD), 74, of Rockville, Md.;
April 12, 2010. Rouse was a senior epidemiologist
for substance abuse and mental health services. u
H. Trawick Ward (’ 80 PhD), 65, of Chapel Hill; June
8, 2010. Ward retired from UNC as a research
archaeologist. He led field excavations throughout
the Southeast, including an extensive excavation in
Hillsborough. He wrote a number of professional
research papers and books.
’ 81 Deborah Hancock McNeill (’ 81 AB) of Charlotte has received her master of social work degree from the University of
South Carolina. McNeill has joined Novant Presbyterian Hospital as a clinical social worker PRN. u Anne
Marshall Sykes (’ 81 BSBA) and her husband,
Edward Farrior Sykes Jr. (’ 76 AB), of Charlotte have
been named 2010-11 national chairs of the Carolina
Parents Council, the leadership arm of the Carolina
Parents Association. Anne Sykes is an assistant vice
president with Bank of America.
’ 82 William Fountain Goodwyn (’ 82 ABJO) of Charlotte has been named president, global distribution, and CEO of Discovery
Education. Goodwyn has been with Discovery Communications for 23 years. The nonfiction media company includes the Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal
Planet, Science Channel, Investigation Discovery,
Planet Green and HD Theater. u Steve Katsadouros
(’ 82 BSBIO) of Flat Rock was featured in Our State
magazine, along with his restaurant, Hot Dog World,
and his famous kraut dog, which was selected a
“food worth seeking.” Katsadouros and his wife,
Dora, bought the restaurant from his father-in-law in
1986. Story, page 57. u Thomas Jan Reddin (’ 82
BSBA) of Charlotte has been appointed to the board
of directors for Valassis, a media and marketing services company. Reddin is the owner of Red Dog Ventures, a venture capital company focused on helping
start-up and early digital companies grow. u Anna
Maria Siega-Riz (’ 82 BSPH, ’ 93 PhD) of Chapel Hill
served as collaborator and co-author on a research
study that has shown that food insecurity can lead to
greater weight gain and increased complications during
pregnancy. Siega-Riz is an associate professor in the
department of epidemiology and nutrition at UNC.
Results of the study were published in the May 2010
issue of Journal of the American Dietetic Association.
