June 18, 2010. Allison was an educator who served
as a high school principal, retiring from Bowman
Senior High. He received the Excellence in Education
Administration Award from the N.C. Association of
School Administrators. After he retired, he served as
an Anson County commissioner. He served in the
Navy in WWII. u Robert Edward King (’ 77 ABJO), 55,
of South Windsor, Conn.; June 20, 2010. King
worked for the State of Connecticut as a manager in
information technology. He was active in his church,
especially in helping young people prepare for confirmation. He was a Boy Scout leader. After college, he
spent four years in the Peace Crops and established
the first community newspaper for an island in the
South Pacific. At UNC, he was a desk editor of The

’ 78 W. Jeffery Brady (’ 78 AB) of Skagway, Alaska, has received the Public Service Award from the Alaska Press Club for his
series of stories in 2009 on the high cost of air
ambulance medical evacuations from Skagway, articles that prompted the town to sign up all 850 residents for low-cost medevac insurance. Brady is editor and publisher of The Skagway News. u Fern
Phillips O’Brian (’ 78 AB) of Bethesda, Md., has
joined the Washington, D.C., office of Thompson
Hine LLP. O’Brian is a partner in the firm’s product-liability practice group, focusing her practice on
health-effects litigation and counseling companies
on regulatory matters involving product liability and
toxic tort. u Robin Eugene Pipkin (’ 78 BSBA, ’ 81 JD)
of Raleigh has joined Sands Anderson PC as a shareholder in the firm. Pipkin is a member of the business, finance and real estate practice group.

a lawyer, was vice president of a law firm in
Baltimore. Previously, she was managing director
and general counsel for regulatory affairs for another
Baltimore firm. She was an assistant U.S. attorney in
Knoxville, Tenn. At UNC, she belonged to Order of the
Coif.
