manager for many years before retiring. u Nathaniel
Elliott Clement (’ 71 MBA), 64, of Chapel Hill; March
21, 2010. A lawyer, Clement ran an estate-planning
law firm in Chapel Hill. He was co-author of two books
on estate planning. He was on the board of directors
of the Orange County Red Cross. A pilot, he belonged
to the Greensboro Civil Air Patrol. He served in the

Elizabeth City; Feb. 13, 2010. Halstead was a lawyer
in Elizabeth City. He had served on the N.C. Board of
Transportation. At UNC, he belonged to Alpha Kappa

Birmingham, Ala.; Feb. 28, 2010. McCallum was a
psychology professor at Birmingham-Southern

’ 72 Christopher J. Daggett (’ 72 AB) of Bask- ing Ridge, N.J., has been named presi- dent and CEO of the Geraldine R. Dodge
Foundation. In 2009, Daggett ran for governor of
New Jersey, one of the few independent candidates
in New Jersey history to raise the threshold amount
of money to qualify for public matching funds and to
participate in public debates with the major party
candidates. u Rigdon Osmond “Rick” Dees III (’ 72
AB) of Burbank, Calif., has joined the board of directors
of Libra Alliance Corp. Dees is a well-known radio and
comedic performer whose radio show, The Rick Dees
Weekly Top 40, is heard around the world. Libra Alliance

’ 73 Helen Williams Akinc (’ 73 AB) of Win- ston-Salem has published The Praeger Handbook for College Parents, a guide to
help parents and children navigate the college
bureaucracy. u Susan Taylor Block (’ 73 ABEd) of
Wilmington has posted an essay, Wilmington: Faded
Glory to Fresh Achievement, on the UNC Wilson
Library website, A View to Hugh, a site devoted to the
photographs and films of Hugh Morton. The essay
looks at some of Morton’s photos of his hometown.
u Suzanne Ishee (’ 73 BMUS) of Maplewood, N.J.,
collaborated with Terry Ellen Rhodes (’ 78 BMUS),
UNC music department chair and director of the UNC
Opera, on Searching for Spinoza, a chamber musical
that premiered at UNC in April. Ishee, founder and
producer of Broadway Center Stage, is the musical’s
playwright. Rhodes’ opera students performed the
work. Timothy James Matson (’05 AB) was musical
director and conductor for the performances. The
production was in conjunction with a semester-long
interdisciplinary program, The Spinoza Project. u
H. Spurgeon Mackie Jr. (’ 73 BSBA) of Gastonia has
been named executive vice president and executive
credit officer for IBERIABANK. u Benjamin Thomas
Orsbon (’ 73 AB, ’ 75 MRP) of Pierre, S.D., has been
inducted into the College of Fellows of the American
Institute of Certified Planners. Orsbon, a special
products coordinator with the South Dakota Department of Transportation, focuses his practice on rural
and small-town planning, rural transportation planning and planning for Native Americans. u Ellis
McRay Stanley Sr. (’ 73, ’ 75 AB) of Los Angeles has
been promoted to vice president of Dewberry, where
he is director of Western emergency management
services for the Los Angeles location. Stanley is also

speaker at the Moore County 2010 NAACP Mother
of the Year event in April. Mask, health committee
chair of the N.C. NAACP Conference of Branches, is
an anesthesiologist and internist with Raleigh Urgent
Care Center. He is the medical reporter and editor of
WRAL-TV, Capital Broadcasting Inc. He served on the
GAA Board of Directors (1987-90).

Tunstall retired as chief of planning for Granville
County. u Kathryn Perdew White (’ 74, ’ 81 MA; ’ 82
PhD), 58, of Los Angeles; March 23, 2010. White
was a clinical psychologist and natural medicine
practitioner. She was licensed as an acupuncturist,
board-certified herbalist, doctor of homeopathic medicine and Ayurvedic medicine practitioner. She was
an assistant clinical professor of medical psychology
at UCLA Medical School and professor of clinical
health psychology at Alliant International University.
She spearheaded the development of the first doctoral programs in the U.S. in homeopathy, classical
Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine. u
Diane Williams (’ 74 AB), 58, of New York; March 25,
2010. Williams worked for Rapaport Publishing for
25 years. u Steven Dale Wyrick (’ 74 BSPHR, ’ 77
PhD), 58, of Greensboro; March 5, 2010. Wyrick was
associate professor emeritus in UNC’s School of
Pharmacy. He was head of the school’s medicinal
chemistry department. Among his teaching honors
was the Nicolas Salgo Distinguished Teaching Award.
He earned the N.C. Power-Lifting Championship in
his weight class in 1969. As a young man, he was
lead singer and guitarist for The Mystics, a rock ’n’
roll band.
’ 75 Kenneth LeRoy Eudy Jr. (’ 75 ABJO) of Raleigh saw his communications agency, Capstrat, win nine Addys from the
Raleigh-Durham chapter of the American Advertising
Federation, including two gold Addys for graphics. u
Glenn George (’ 75 AB) of Tucson, Ariz., has been
appointed vice president for legal affairs and general
counsel for the University of Arizona. She and her
husband, Gene R. Nichol Jr., will each hold a tenured
position in UA’s James E. Rogers College of Law. Previously, George held a number of administrative positions at UNC and taught in its law school. u Cindy
Worsley Hamilton (’ 75 BSPHR) of Virginia Beach,
Va., is the 2009-10 immediate past president of the
American Medical Writers Association. Hamilton is
