FRIENDS MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Friends Provide for the
Future of the Library
…and for their own.
Since 1995, Wiley J. Williams ’ 49 has been giving to the library through Carolina’s Gift Annuity Program. He says, “I give through the gift annuity program as a way of repaying the University for the quality of
the education I got here as an undergraduate.”
And the library is central to
an education that doesn’t end
upon graduation. According to
Mr. Williams, “After all these
years, to live in Chapel Hill and
to have a library card means
so much…to be able to check
out just about anything that I
want from the library.”
Mr. Williams receives income for
life from his gift annuity. He also
participates in the IRA Rollover
program, which allows him to
make gifts tax-free to the library. “I am trying to give something right now to
libraries that have helped me in my research.” You too might want to consider
these ways of giving.
Through a charitable gift annuity you can make a gift to the library while
providing a guaranteed stream of income for life. At death, the principal passes
to the library to be used as you designate. In addition to guaranteed income,
you receive an immediate income tax deduction for a portion of the gift.
The IRA Rollover allows an individual aged 70 and older to make tax-free
charitable gifts from an IRA—a benefit effective through December of 2009.
Wouldn’t you like to join Mr. Williams by helping the library, while also
ensuring for your future? To learn more about these opportunities, contact the
