M. David Parker Jr. (’ 88), 43, of Johns Creek, Ga.;
May 26, 2009. A CPA and certified management
accountant, Parker was director of internal audit for
a global medical manufacturer. At UNC, he
belonged to Pi Kappa Phi. u Meg Webster (’ 88
MSW), 45, of Richmond, Calif.; Oct. 8, 2008.
Webster was a psychiatric social worker with Kaiser
Permanente.

of emergency medicine at the UNC School of Medicine. u E. Patrick Johnson (’ 89 AB, ’ 91 MA) of
Chicago performed his latest one-man show, Pouring
Tea: Black Gay Men of the South Tell Their Tales, at
the Annie May Swift Hall at Northwestern University.
Johnson, chair of the department of performance
studies at Northwestern, has been touring with the
new show, the latest in his translations of academic
research to performance. u Christopher Michael
Northrop (’ 89 JD) of Sanford, Maine, has received
the 2009 Faculty Senate Award for Excellence in
Teaching from the University of Maine School of Law.
Northrop is an associate clinical professor of law,
concentrating his work in the area of juvenile justice. u Joseph Todd Norton (’ 89 AB) of Chapel Hill
has received the 2009 Health Care Heroes Award
from the Triangle Business Journal for his contribution of more than 23,000 hours as a volunteer for
UNC Health Care at UNC Hospitals since 1992. u
Brandon Kenneth Pope (’ 89 BSBA, ’ 89 MAC) of Dallas, Texas, an investment adviser with Bernstein
Global Wealth Management, has published Spiritual
Lessons from Wall Street, a guide to the development of a spiritual investment portfolio. u Dr. Carol
Getker Shores (’ 89, ’ 88 PhD; ’ 95 MD) of Chapel
Hill has received a grant of $30,000 from the UNC
Center for AIDS Research/Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center to set up a clinical cancer database at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe,
Malawi. She and her colleagues will set up tissue
procurement and studies to examine cancer
patients. She will serve as adviser to Dr. Elizabeth
Bigger of Vanderbilt University, who has received a
National Institutes of Health Fogarty International
Clinical Research Fellowship to work on the project.
Shores is an associate professor in the department
of otolaryngology’s division of head and neck oncology at the UNC School of Medicine. u Rick Lee
Williams (’ 89, ’ 88 PhD) of Raleigh has been named
an American Statistical Association Fellow for his
contributions to the development and application of
analysis methods for correlated and sample survey
data. Williams, a senior research statistician at RTI
International, served as development leader and
made contributions to the development of SUDAAN,
a software package that analyzes data from complex
studies.

Rosalyn Tanner Orr (’ 89 AB), 41, of Greensboro; May
22, 2009. Orr was executive director of The
Barnabas Network in Greensboro. At UNC, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and belonged to Delta Delta
Delta. u James Jeffrey Wood (’ 89 BSBA), 46, of
Shelby; June 3, 2009. Wood was senior vice president of mortgage operations at First National Bank
of Shelby. He was president of the Mortgage Bankers
