’ 97 Joanne Kilgour Dowdy (’ 97 PhD) of Kent, Ohio, has received the 2009 Out- standing Book Award from the American
Educational Research Association Narrative and
Research Special Interest Group. Dowdy, a professor
of adolescent and adult literacy in the department of
teaching, leadership and curriculum studies at Kent
State University, is co-editor of an upcoming book
that focuses on literacy other than that involved in
understanding the printed word. u Julie Michelle
Schneider (’ 97 BSN) of Atlanta has received a mas-
ter of science degree in nursing with a specialty in
acute and critical care nurse practitioner from Emory
University. Schneider is a neurocritical care nurse at
Emory University Hospital.

’ 98 Tiffany Rae Almy (’ 98 AB), Jessica Sue Burstein (’ 98 AB) and Abigail Bowman Carson (’ 98 AB) of Brooklyn, N. Y.,
teamed up on the short film Abbie Cancelled, which
was an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival 2009. Burstein and her Dumb Bunny Productions partner, Robbie Norris, co-wrote and directed
the film. Carson edited the film, and Almy handled
the production law. Carson is an independent film
editor who works frequently with MTV Networks.
Almy practices entertainment law with Sedlmayr &
Associates in New York. In the film, two couples who
had never met survive an evening of embarrassing
moments. u Dr. Leigh Anne Cantrell (’ 98 BSBIO,
’02 MSPH, ’03 MD) of Durham received the Best
Poster Presentation award at a meeting of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists. Cantrell is a fellow in
