10, 2008. Edmund was a research technician at
UNC. Ruth Elizabeth Mitchell-Pitts (’ 90, ’ 91 PhD),
57, of Raleigh; Feb. 1, 2009. Mitchell-Pitts was executive director of three European studies programs at
UNC that she helped create. When she began at
UNC in 1992 as a part-time coordinator of the new
Center for European Studies, she helped guide the
center to what is generally considered one of the top
European studies centers in the U.S. In April, she
received the European Union Studies Association’s
public service award posthumously. Earlier in her
career, she taught political science at UNC, NCSU,
East Carolina University and UNC-Greensboro.
