’05 George Edwin “Eddie” Gray Jr. (’05 MEd)
of Raleigh has posted his 300th career
win as head men’s basketball coach at
Garner Magnet High School. In his 19 seasons as
coach, Gray’s players have included Donald E.
Williams (’ 95, ’ 96 AB), David West (New Orleans in
the NBA) and James Mays (Clemson). Robert Kyle
McKeever (’05 AB) of Chapel Hill has received a
master of arts degree in communication and leadership studies from Gonzaga University. In January,
McKeever presented his research on social media as
an instrument for promoting access to student loan
programs at the annual meeting of the Coalition of
Higher Education Assistance Organizations. Tasha
Renee Smith (’05 MPH) of Winston-Salem has been
appointed community program manager for the
N.C. Triad affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure,
which provides information and support for women
with breast cancer as well as funding for research.

(’07 PhD) of Carrboro has been accepted into the new
Industrial Fellowships Program of the N.C. Biotechnology Center. Hubert is a crop physiologist at BASF
Plant Science, working to devise new ways to find
traits that allow plants to fend off infection and to tolerate drought and other stressful growing conditions.
Liisa Sundberg Smith (’07 PhD) of Raleigh has
been accepted into the new Industrial Fellowships
Program of the N.C. Biotechnology Center. Smith will
spend two years with Aldagen of Durham, conducting
research in new cell-therapy tests and exploring
product development and manufacturing methods.
David Jordan Whichard IV (’07 AB) has been
appointed by President Barack Obama as a trip coordinator for the White House scheduling and advance

Jenna Nicole Seagraves (’08 AB), 23, of Harrisburg;
Dec. 4, 2008. Seagraves was studying for a master
of arts degree in teaching at East Carolina University.
She spent her senior-year Christmas holiday on a
medical mission trip to Haiti and worked annually
with Operation Warm-up to collect and distribute
clothing for children of Appalachia. At UNC, she was
a Carolina Teaching Fellows scholar.
