’ 90 William Gaither “Billy” Crudup (’ 90 AB)
of New York has received the 2008 PlayMaker Distinguished Achievement
Award. Crudup won a 2007 Tony Award for best performance by a featured actor for his role in
of Utopia. His film credits include Big Fish (2003),
Mission Impossible III (2006) and The Good Shepherd (2006). Crudup will portray J. Edgar Hoover in
the upcoming film Public Enemies, and the superhero Dr. Manhattan in the film version of the graphic
novel Watchmen. Brian Keith Matney (’ 90 MAT,
’ 92 PhD) of Virginia Beach, Va., was invited to participate in the Oxford Roundtable at Oxford University’s
Harris Manchester College in England, where he
joined 36 educators from 18 states and six countries
to discuss “Achieving Excellence in Education.” Matney is principal of Frank W. Cox High School.

has been named director of professional development and alumni relations in the department of
