Alumni in the Legislature
Forty-five UNC alumni were elected to the N.C. General
Assembly in November. As a result, 30 percent of senators
( 15 of 50) and 25 percent of House members ( 30 of 120)
are Carolina alumni. Also, former Sen. Walter H. Dalton ’ 71
was elected lieutenant governor. All legislators serve two-year terms. The 2009 legislative session opens Jan. 28.
