The N.C. Department of Insurance has caught up with the old
library. Those who can navigate the
stacks move seamlessly through the
original ’ 29 building, and the ’ 52
and ’ 77 additions, but renovations
and rerouting over the years have
been piecemeal, and the state won’t
allow any more of that until a sprin-
kler system and two new stairwells
are installed. The additions will usurp
a couple of the big windows on the
back, for the most part unnoticeable.
