at UNC. Murillo is a first-generation Chicano who has
worked with administrators for more than 20 years to
improve curricula for Spanish-speaking immigrants.
He has conducted research on diversity and identity,
including interviews with first-generation Latino immigrants in North Carolina for the UNC Southern Oral
History Project. Emily Lynn Williamson (’ 99 AB,
’03 MPA) of Hildebran has been selected as the
Burke County Woman of the Year for 2009 by the
Business and Professional Women. Williamson, the
youngest woman to win the award, is vice president
for student development at Western Piedmont Community College and serves on numerous boards and
councils, including the Hildebran Town Council.
