PhD) of Urbana, Ill., has been named assistant
professor in the Graduate School of Library
and Information Science at the University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. MacMullen’s
research in bioinformatics focuses on the way in
which life scientists use structured data sets and
the biomedical literature in their work processes.

Chapel Hill has been named marketing and
sales manager for WRAL Local Tech Wire, the

Hill has been named associate dean of executive development at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler
Business School. Cates comes to UNC from

American Immigrant Perspectives course,
which lets students work with immigrants in
North Carolina and visit immigrants’ home
