A Day When Rameses
Needed an Extra Escort
The death of Rameses XVII is a touching story. I have a story of Rameses in
1951. I was in charge of the big gate where
bands enter the field. Robert Hogan
brought Rameses to the game and, upon
entering the gate, there were at least eight
persons holding on to Rameses. I asked
Mr. Hogan, “What’s going on?” He replied
that Rameses was somewhat rambunctious
that day and he had to be held. I laughed,
but let all eight persons accompany Rameses. As soon as they got to the field they
relaxed their holds and scattered. Rameses
stood there as calm as a day without a
breeze.
