McLeod was co-owner of Pondscapes Inc. and owner of a store specializing in French antiques. At UNC, he belonged to Delta Upsilon. G. Gregory Ritchie (’ 82 BSBA), 46, of Greensboro; July 20, 2007. Ritchie was a manager for a roofing company.

’ 83 Terry Mallgren Hamrick (’ 83 BSBA) of Winston-Salem has been named program assistant for Amani Children’s Foundation, where she has been working as a volunteer for several years. The foundation serves the needs of orphaned, abandoned and HIV-positive children and works for their adoptions with Kenyan families. Tom Sears (’ 83, ’ 86 AB) of Mount Airy, Md., has been inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Sears was first team all-ACC and All-America playing for UNC in 1981 and 1982 and named outstanding player of the 1982 NCAA championship game. Dr. Lynette Laylon Smith (’ 83 DDS) of Mount Airy has been awarded fellowship in the American College of Dentists. Smith is immediate past president of the N.C. Academy of General Dentistry and serves on the UNC Dental Alumni Association Board of Directors. William Stewart Thomas (’ 83 BSBA) of Laurinburg has received a doctorate in organization and management with specialization in information technology management from Capella University. Thomas is an assistant professor in the department of accounting and information technology management at UNC-Pembroke. Jackie Tyson (’ 83 ABJO) of Alpharetta, Ga., and her agency, Peloton Sports Inc., have received two Phoenix Awards presented by the Georgia chapter of the Public Relations Society of America for projects completed for the Tour de Georgia cycling event and the ING Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon. Diane Elizabeth Wilfong (’ 83 BSBA) of Pittsford, N. Y., has received the MAC Alumni Merit Award from the Kenan-Flagler Business School Alumni Association. Wilfong is corporate controller and chief accounting officer of Eastman Kodak Co. ■ obituary Jeffrey Lee McMurtrie (’ 83 MSPH), 53, of Woodinville, Wash.; Nov. 5, 2007. McMurtrie worked on fishing boats in Alaska until 1997, when an injury forced him to stop. A climbing instructor, he climbed Mount Rainier more than 40 times. He served in the Army.

’ 84 Dr. G. Hadley Callaway (’ 84 AB) of Raleigh has been inducted as president of the N.C. Medical Society. Callaway is a physician at the Raleigh
