with jars of jerk seasoning, curry powder,
guava juice and cans of coconut milk.
Owner Ida Yehedego moved her inventory from Durham because business is better in Chapel Hill, said manager Don
Shearer. “She wanted to try something a
little different,” he said.

Cluck-U Serves
All Things Chicken
Go ahead. Eat five of these chicken
wings. Norm Praet dares you. Praet, owner
of a Cluck University Chicken franchise
opening in January in the spot once home
to Pepper’s Pizza, took the 911 Wings
Challenge himself as a college kid working at the original Cluck-U store in Rut-gers, N.J. He consumed three, a personal
best. Other styles are milder.
Customers order at the counter for eat-in
or take-out from an assortment of poultry:
chicken wings, chicken tenders, fried
chicken, wraps and sandwiches, as well as
sides. In the spring, Praet expects to begin
delivery service.
Hours: 11 a.m.- 3 a.m. seven days a week.

Sun Goes Down, Music
Comes Up at Mansion 462
Wesley Johnson ’ 89, co-owner of
Elaine’s on Franklin Street, has opened a
performance space down the block. By
day, the space caters to businesses staging
PowerPoint presentations. Once the sun
goes down, the music comes up, and
Mansion 462 presents live music performances, and a drink or two, said General
Manager Brad Waycaster. The furniture is
elegant amidst the bronze fixtures and
potted palms; think upscale Cat’s Cradle.
N.C. law requires Mansion 462 to bill
itself as a private club because it serves
drinks but not food, so at least one person
in the party has to have a $25 membership to sign others in as guests.Visit
www.mansion462.com to find out about
applying for membership before you get
to the door. The club planned a Jan. 1
grand opening.
Hours: 5 p.m.- 2 a.m. Tuesday-Saturday

Jester’s Finds Fun Gifts
Looking for a gift between $3 and
$3,000? Anne Eberdt, owner of Jester’s, and
Jean Nance have scoured the market shows
and brought back unusual and useful items
for babies, brides and birthday honorees. Of
course, Carolina fans will be drawn to the
hand-carved wooden ram’s head, with or
without a pink necktie emblazoned with
tiny tar heels. And the aged iron moose
head is intriguing, too. On the softer side,
cashmere argyle turtlenecks would make
any dog feel loved. For babies, ultrasoft
“jelly” cats have silky fur. Who wouldn’t
want PJs with a matching pillow sham?
“We specialize in things you wouldn’t
buy for yourself, but you’re so excited
when you get them,” Nance said.
