Finding a Business
Opportunity — and a
Friend
The Stock Exchange is back, in a
new location and under new ownership.
The women’s clothing consignment shop
closed its Franklin Street store in January
after 22 years. Meg Thomas ’ 95, who had
owned the store for 18 years, sold the
business to Lesleigh Cooper ’ 95, who in
September moved the store to a roomier
location on one floor at Falconbridge
Center.
Cooper had planned to put her 10
years in the retail business behind her and
was headed to law school when she met
Thomas and learned of the opportunity
to own her own store.

P.T.’s Moves In With Lucy’s
Buoyed by the success of its three restaurants in Wilmington, P. T.’s Olde Fashioned Grille came to downtown Chapel
Hill in August, taking over the kitchen for
Lucy’s. P. T.’s is self-serve and noted for low
prices, and it prides itself on its fresh ingredients. “We have no freezer,” said manager
Matt Rice. “Even the fries are fresh-cut.”
Lucy’s still runs the full bar Thursday
through Saturday until 2 a.m.

Bitten by the Fashion Bug
Girls just want another great place to
shop, and Kristen Bishop provides it with
Lucky Mi, a jewelry-to-jeans boutique of
creations by up-and-coming designers.
Bishop, Lucky Mi’s owner, buyer and
salesclerk, got bitten by the designer fashion
bug through the couture shows she went
to in New York while designing marketing
materials for a Raleigh jeweler. Customers
of all body types have flocked to her shop
in Eastgate Shopping Center, despite the
maze of construction detours that have
made parking a challenge. The most
expensive item in the shop is a $400 silk
jacket; cocktail dresses and sun dresses,
tops, jeans, jewelry and handbags sell for
far less. Dresses are priced between $100
and $200; handmade clutches are $150 to
$220; larger leather bags are $300 or so.
“We serve as a stylist to our customers,”
Bishop said. “We make shopping fun.”
Hours: 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
