Going Global
Undergraduates outside the professional schools have had little
reason to cross Columbia Street
for classes until now, but student
traffic to the western edge of the
campus surged noticeably as the
new semester began. Besides
housing international programs,
the just-opened FedEx Global
Education Center hosts about 50
classes across the undergraduate
academic spectrum. The idea is to
expose students to what’s going
on in the building, which houses
the six area studies programs for
Africa, Latin America, the Middle
East, western Europe, eastern
Europe and Asia; the Study Abroad
program; and international student scholar services. FedEx is a
venture into the modern, architecturally, as evidenced in the towering atrium, at right. The building
will be dedicated on University
Day, Oct. 12.
